Monarch of the Seas, Inaugural Cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida
Monarch of the Seas Maiden Voyage November 17th, 1991 Gross Tonnage 73,941 Guest Capacity 2836

The Second Ship in the Sovereign class. Though she is small compared to the large mega ships she still offers a wonderful cruise experience. Her spanning four-story atrium is the heart of the ship. Offering shopping, Guest relations, one of the top rated in the fleet, Seattle’s best coffee and access throughout the ship.
Three and Four day sailing out of Port Canaveral Florida makes this an ideal location for first time to the vintage cruisers along with being the gateway to Central Florida, with Orlando and the famous Theme Parks are only about one hour away.

With her fourteen public decks and her signature Viking Crown Lounge atop the ship there is something for everyone aboard the Monarch of the Seas. The Dining is excellent on the Monarch and to date I have sailed on four different occasions. The food, in my opinion, has improved from its journey from the west coast. In one case was presented with as only I can describe as Middle Eastern Indian onion rings served above at the Wind Jammer and Jade restaurant along with Indian tea made the end to a rather enjoyable yet spur of the moment evening, unforgettable.

The Monarch is one of five ships that get to drop anchor at Royal Caribbean’s private island Coco-Cay. Pure Paradise! A little drop of land in the Bahamas Islands is home to Coco-Cay I like to get over early and enjoy the snorkeling before the water gets to churn up. If you are lucky you might be able to catch the first tender, suit up and enjoy the water. Find the two sunken airplanes or the shipwreck. The snorkeling is a wonderful excursion and a good price. Check out the nature trail and the Caribbean BBQ. Relax at the beach and sip a coco- loco, maybe a couple of them. Yummy for the tummy!

Standard staterooms are small though you really do not find yourself in the cabin that much. Suites are nice but for the price of a three or four day cruises why waste the money. Overall I enjoy the Monarch of the Seas. She is the perfect size, a wonderful crew and though she was built in 1991 she is well kept and her upgrades really show.
